is precluded and the salary of £300 paid from Colonial Funds appears to be inadequate of itself to support the obligations of the appointment my Lords desire me to enquire whether the Colonial Office will consider the question of augumenting this remuneration. My Lords presume that the Secretary of State will agree that it is undesirable that an officer in Captain Neville's position should be subjected to financial embarrassments such as those now brought to notice, and they therefore trust that he will see his way to reconsider the emoluments payable to this officer.
